You can be classified as a domestic student if you are:
- A New Zealand citizen (including citizens of the Cook Islands, Tokelau, and Niue), or
- A holder of a New Zealand residence class visa granted under the Immigration Act 2009, residing and studying in New Zealand, or
- An Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia, residing and studying in New Zealand
To gain admission to the University of Otago as a domestic student, you will need to apply through the University's online enrolment system (eVision) and meet the University Entrance standard (or equivalent). If you gained University Entrance outside of New Zealand, you are still welcome to apply to study here.
If your last two years of secondary school were not taught in English, or English is not your first language, you will need to show evidence of English language proficiency. You can provide official copies of relevant transcripts and/or certificates once you have submitted your application.
You should research your study options before you start. You will need to consider:
- Your intended course of study (e.g. programme, major subject or endorsement, and papers)
- Your intended study location (in Dunedin or another campus, or by distance learning)
- Your intended start date (Summer School, semester 1, or semester 2)
- Entry requirements for the University and the programme/s you wish to study
