Skills Matter provides funding for postgraduate training for new graduates and existing practitioners working in DHB, NGO, and primary care settings, including nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and addiction practitioners.

Te Pou manages Skills Matter funding on behalf of Ministry of Health.

The University of Otago qualifications eligible for Te Pou funding are:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences endorsed in Addiction and Co-existing Disorders, Christchurch campus
    Assessment and management of co-existing substance use and mental health
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences endorsed in Nursing (Leadership and Management) (CNLP), Christchurch campus
    Clinical leadership in nursing practice
    • Skills Matter CNLP funding can be used as part of a postgraduate pathway leading towards a postgraduate certificate or diploma, or a clinical master’s degree that has clinical mental health and addiction nursing as its focus. In some cases, nurses who have completed a master’s degree may be funded for additional study.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences endorsed in Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy; Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences endorsed in Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Wellington campus
    Postgraduate Certificate & Diploma courses in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences endorsed in Forensic Mental Health, Christchurch campus: The Forensic funding pathway can be used for other qualifications, not just a Postgraduate certificate in Health Sciences endorsed in Forensic Mental Health. It requires students to take the compulsory paper PSME407 Forensic Psychiatry with a companion paper.
