- From the Go menu at the top of your screen, select Connect to Server… or press the command (⌘) and K keys on your keyboard.

smb://storage.hcs-p01.otago.ac.nz/<share-name>
smb://storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz/uoc-shared
(for the Christchurch U: drive)smb://storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz/<share-name>
(for other HCS shares located on Christchurch HCS hardware)smb://storage.hcs-wlg.otago.ac.nz/<share-name>
(for the Wellington HCS)- Note: If you want to add this to your favourite servers list, click the plus (+) button.

- For HCS (including hcs-chc and hcs-wlg) shared drives, enter your University username and password, in the format of registry\<yourusername> (for staff), or student\<yourusername> e.g. registry\bonja97p or student\bonja007
- Click the Connect button or press the Return or Enter key. Your Finder window should update to show the shared drive.
Windows 10/11 — Option 1: Mapping
This option allows the shared drive to be mapped to your computer, so that you can open it from within File Explorer (under This PC), rather than having to connect to it manually each time.
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click on This PC in the left-hand column.
- Select Map network drive… from the pop-up menu.
- Next to Folder, type the address of the shared drive you want to connect to:

\\storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz\uoc-shared
(for the Christchurch U: drive)\\storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz\<share-name>
(for other HCS shares located on Christchurch HCS hardware)\\storage.hcs-wlg.otago.ac.nz\<share-name>
(for the Wellington HCS)
- Click Finish. If you are using a non-University computer, tick Connect using different credentials before clicking Finish.
- If you are asked for a password when trying to open:
- For HCS (including hcs-chc and hcs-wlg) shared drives, enter your University username and password, in the format of registry\<yourusername> (for staff), or student\<yourusername> e.g. registry\bonja97p or student\bonja007
Windows 10/11 — Option 2: Single Connection
This option should be followed for a one-off connection on Windows 10 machines, for example if you only need to access the shared drive once and don't require continued access.
- Click the Start menu icon (usually at the bottom left) or press the Windows and R keys on your keyboard.
- Type the address of the shared drive you want to connect to:
\\storage.hcs-p01.otago.ac.nz\<share-name>
\\storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz\uoc-shared
(for the Christchurch U: drive)\\storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz\<share-name>
(for other HCS shares located on Christchurch HCS hardware)\\storage.hcs-wlg.otago.ac.nz\<share-name>
(for the Wellington HCS)
- Press the Enter key. If a dialogue box appears asking you to Enter network credentials:
- For HCS (including hcs-chc and hcs-wlg) shared drives, enter your University username and password, in the format of registry\<yourusername> (for staff), or student\<yourusername> e.g. registry\bonja97p or student\bonja007
- Click OK or press the Enter key. A window showing the shared drive should open.
Linux
- Start the file browser.
- In the file browser's address menu, type:
* smb://storage.hcs-p01.otago.ac.nz/<...>
- Select registered user, and type your credentials: registry\<yourusername> (for staff) or student\<yourusername> for student.
- Click the Connect button.
